HERMETICISM…Alchemy is based on a philosphy called Hermeticism that was developed in the first and second centuries by Gnostic thinkers. Alchemy is really the secret tradition of the redemption of spirit from matter.

“Rather than see the present world as exclusively a veil of tears and a black prison...the great strength of alchemical thinking and the way in which it is completely antithetical to science and in fact why science has so much contempt for it, it’s because the alchemist had the wisdom to see that everything occurs in the presence of it’s opposite. It’s not either-or, it’s both-and. The 'coincidence of opposites', the Union of Opposites.

As an artist I find the Color Wheel a perfect metaphor of the union of opposites. Colors on the wheel opposite to one another are called Complements…or complementary. Blending these opposites create a world of beautiful tints, tones and shades. It has been estimated the eye can distinguish more than 10 million  variations of color.
